Proud Mama Here

Proud Mama Here

Postby JoLynne on Sat Apr 06, 2013 12:11 pm

You moms know the feeling. When your kid does something that you're proud of, and you can't help but bragging about it?

My 13-year-old daughter's school held a fund raising auction last night attended by parents, alumni and community supporters. High-end items such as vacations were being auctioned off.

A couple of the tables were covered with ceramic bowls created by the kids and their art teacher. The starting bid on each item was $25, and the idea was generally that parents would help support the school by purchasing their child's bowl for that amount. I thought my daughter's bowl was very pretty and was glad to bid on it.

But when I looked at the bid sheet. Someone else had already placed the minimum bid on my kid's bowl? Okay, so I bid $35 and figured that was that.

Good thing I checked the bid sheet right before the auctioneer closed that table, though, because someone else had come along and offered $45 for her bowl. Seriously?

So I bid $55.

Only a handful of the kids' bowls were bid up that high.

I was a little chagrined that I had to get in a bidding war to bring home my daughter's beautiful creation -- which will be a gift to her grandparents who are paying for her education -- and also proud that she had created something so pretty that complete strangers admired it and wanted to take it home with them.

When I walked in with the bowl, my daughter rolled her eyes and said something like, "You bought that piece of junk?"

Then I showed her the bidding sheet and said, "Your 'piece of junk' is so pretty that it created a bidding war, and you raised $55 for your school."

Her jaw literally dropped. She was amazed. And very pleased with herself. As well she should be. :D

What are some of the little things your kids have done that made you feel proud?

Cool!

For me, after 13 LONG, LONG, LONG, HARD, HARD, HARD years, my son got into the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. He was also accepted into K-State's School of Music but UMKC was our creme-de-la-creme!

That is very cool, JoLynn! Frizzed, we will have to go see him on Broadway some day.

The things that I am most proud of that my kids 'do' is that they are caring human beings. They go out of their way to help friends and strangers alike. They support the underdog. They want to protect the weakest of those among us. All of them.

What your kids do to make you proud speaks well of how they are being raised, mamalackey. :D

I'm so proud of my son Blake as he was presented last month with an award at school from the American Heart Association as he was the top fundraiser for the whole school for their Jump Rope for Heart event!!
