Steak Soup!

Steak Soup!

Postby mom2momkc on Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:40 pm

I'm throwing this good old delicious standby in the slow cooker tomorrow morning. This is a version of the Plaza III steak soup, and I've been making it for years. It's one of the family's favorites. So good with crusty rolls and a salad. Or if you are my son, lots (and lots) of crackers!

Steak Soup
3 cups water
2 small onions, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
1 14 1/2-ounce can of tomatoes, undrained
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 10-ounce pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
1 pound coarsely ground beef or finely diced chuck roast, browned & drained
2-4 Tbsp. beef base, granules or paste (or I use 4-5 beef bouillon cubes)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup flour

Put all ingredients except butter and flour in crock pot. Cover and cook on low 8-12 hours (or on high for 4-6 hours). One hour or so before serving, turn to high. Make a paste of 1/2 cup melted butter and 1/2 cup flour. Stir until smooth. Pour into crock pot, stir and heat on high until thickened.
