Liveblogging the inauguration
So, one week away... I'll live blog the inauguration.... here? I'm posting the schedule below. These are eastern times. I saw in the paper today, there's a special ben and jerry's flavor just for that day. My P is going to lunch with her liberal friends... both of them.
I'm not sure if I'm doing anything special that day -- was thinking a meetup would be fun. but, who knows.
Time Event
8:00 AM Gates open for ticketed attendees -- if you have tickets, it will be wise to arrive very early as crowds will be huge and security heavy.
10:00 AM Preliminary festivities begin, including music by The United States Marine Band, The San Francisco Boys Chorus, and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.
11:30 AM If you have tickets to event, you must have passed through security by this time.
Call to Order and Welcoming Remarks: Senator Dianne Feinstein
Invocation: Dr. Rick Warren
Aretha Franklin will sing
Vice President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn into office
Music composed by John Williams and performed by Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Gabriela Montero, and Anthony McGill.
12:00 Noon As specified by the U.S. Constitution (20th Amendment), presidential terms of office begin and end at 12:00 noon on January 20. Barack Obama will take the oath of office, which is this simple, 36-word, statement:
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.
12:05 PM (approx) President Barack Obama will give his inaugural address, speaking to the nation and world, for the first time, as President of the United States, followed by:
Poem: Elizabeth Alexander
Benediction: The Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery
The National Anthem: The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters"

Re: Liveblogging the inauguration
Thanks for posting the schedule--now I am torn as I want to watch, but I really need to work. Perhaps I will take my DD's laptop to work so I can at least listen/watch--we aren't allowed to stream live from the work computer. How do you think the schools would feel about missing school to watch? I was allowed to miss school to help in a local election in HS.

I was allowed to miss school to go to the opening of Nordstrom my senior year in high school. The presidential inauguration is probably more important. I would see if the school or her teacher is going to show it in their class first. You don't have to tell them why she is leaving school.
It's my DD's 3 1/2 birthday that day. I'm sure we'll be watching a Princess movie. I'll probably watch it later on the web. I'm sure it will be one somewhere.

Annie, you definitely should liveblog here next week! Are you on twitter yet? I think I heard Bruce Springsteen might be playing that evening. I'd also love to hear Maya Angelou read a poem. I'm going to DVR the day's televised events for my daughter to watch.
COOL TIP from Jana. She took The Star from the day after election day and held it up to take a picture with her kids in front of it to record the historic day. I thought it was a great way to record history. Since I didn't get around to doing it before I recycled the papers, I plan to do this on Jan. 21.

Re: Liveblogging the inauguration
I'm not on twitter. But then I don't carry the internet around in my pocket yet. This week I've been trying to de-tox from facebook a little... which, speaking of facebook, you'll see photos out there of my kids in front of the TV when Obama wins the election on Tuesday night, Nov. 4th. My biggest coup though was getting that TV coverage of us voting... all three of us pushed the button together and one of the TV stations captured it. I have that little video clip.
I'd love to be out and about watching with a group -- but I don't know that it will be on at some of the bars/restaurants, etc. We will definitely DVR it for the kids to watch... I had not considered keeping them home.

Baby Daughter and I will be in jammies most of the day doing home school in front of the tv. It is an historic day and I want her to be able to remember it. I've picked up a book about Obama for her to read this week before hand. Despite the work she did last fall before the election, it can't hurt for her to learn some more about our new president. Wonder if the book store at the Truman Library would have something to choose from?
