Z-pac
Has anyone taken the Zithromax "Z-pac" and had a reaction to it? I started it yesterday for strep and my stomach has been tore up since. I see it is a side effect that should be checked, but I have taken it before and never had this effect, so not sure if it is from the med. or something else. Just not sure if should keep takin it or call the dr. or what.

Drink acidophilus milk. Antibiotics kill ALL the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. Acidophilus milk will replace the good bacteria that's being killed. You could also eat yogurt with live cultures, but you'd have to eat a lot of it. I just recently started a TWO WEEK antibiotic and started drinking acidophilus twice a day. I've had no problems and usually I have some stomach issues.

Pardon the dumb question- but can I buy this milk at any grocery store or is it only sold at certain places?

It's sold everywhere. At least, I haven't found a place that it isn't sold. It comes in 1/2 gallons, so it's off to the side with the buttermilk and chocolate milk, etc.

Go back to doctor and get a penniciliin shot. It is the BEST way to beat the strains fo strep- the Z pak is less than 80% effective. We jus learned that a week go from Urgent care doc.

If you aren't a milk drinker try some yogurt. Get the kind that have active or live cultures. Most of them are, but look for the labeling.
I got a penicillin shot this morning for strep and should have grabbed some while I was out. Don't want to get the nasty itchy side effect that sometimes come with antibiotics. ick

Actually, yogurt doesn't have as much of the good stuff as acidophilus milk does. You have to eat a WHOLE bunch of yogurt to get the cultures in a couple glasses of milk. If you don't like to drink white milk, try chocolate milk or vanilla milk (1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1 package of splenda). It tastes like a melted shake.

I have to take the z-pac everytime I get strep since I am allergic to penicillian. The milk does wonders for my stomach when I have to take the meds. I'd go with it
