Mom2mom poll:Do your kids give their rooms for houseguests?

Postby mom2momkc on Mon Dec 31, 2012 1:17 pm

Many of us entertained family over the holiday, and that often means putting Grandma or Uncle Harold in the kids' room. Do you do this? Do your kids end up on the couch or the futon on the basement when guests come? Or do you have an extra guest room? Do you make the relatives take the couch?

Didn't we all give up our beds for houseguests when we were little? I don't think it permanently scars the kids, it's called sacrifice and it beats all the cooking and cleaning Mom has to do when guests visit. I do draw the line though on giving up my bed for houseguests--unless it's my mother or mother-in-law.

When I was a kid, we got a sheet and blanket and pillow on the floor (they called it a pallet) while the adults got the bed space. I still teach my kids to get out of chairs when adults come into the room and they will give up their beds when we have company.

We do not have a guest room-never have. Since most of my family lives in town so this isn't much of an issue, but if it came down to it, yes, my kids would gladly take a couch, or a sleeping bag. As it is, when they have friends spend the night they sleep there anyways.

You bet. It depends upon how many guests, but, yes, my kids generally give up their rooms for house guests. I have a fold out sofa in my office, but if more than 1 guest, the kids sacrifice.

Always! We have no family in the Kansas City area, so we absolutely love, love when family and friends come to visit. It is a pleasure for the kids to give up their rooms and usually, it is a great slumber party with cousins on the family room floor.

We do have one guest room. When there is more than one guest, however, the kids get bumped out of their rooms. They love it! We have a small pup tent they get to set up and camp in Mom and Dad's room. To them, it is a great adventure!
