Mom2mom poll: Does your spouse help with Thanksgiving?
Will you get a lot of help next week with Thanksgiving prep and cleanup? Not so much? A little? We're wondering this week if your spouse is helpful on T-Day. (Not to be sexist here--maybe your spouse does it all?)
Share your experience by answering the weekly poll question. Post your comments and read The Star's FYI section on Tuesday, Nov.20 to see what other moms say. Also check back often on mom2momkc.com to see how the mom2mom panel answered.
The question: Does your spouse help with cooking and cleanup on Thanksgiving Day?
A. Yes
B. Nope. Can you say “football game?”
C. Sometimes

Re: Mom2mom poll: Does your spouse help with Thanksgiving?
I am fortunate to be married to a man who wants to help however he can on Thanksgiving. He does have specific traditional 'assignments' which include making mashed potatoes and stuffed celery with a secret family recipe that I can't share here.
Besides helping in the kitchen when I allow him (translation: I have a very small kitchen) his Thanksgiving day goal is to see how long he can stay in his pajamas on Thanksgiving day.

I have much to be thankful for, because my husband is the cook!
We've got it down: there's a shopping list saved on the computer. I handle the shopping, he does all the prep work and cooking, I do the table setup and we stay up together and clean.
We do have a family member who brings very delicious pies, but he does everything else and it is fantastic!

My spouse is all around helpful and helps with the the whole shebang. Growing up, we sometimes had Thanksgiving with my dad's sister and her family. It was a relaxed affair, and after the meal, all the men would go in the kitchen and handle the entire cleanup. It didn't take them very long, and it was sure a nice break for all the spouses and moms who had worked so hard on the meal. It was a very effective way to show their appreciation.

As both our parents are still living, we have yet to host a big holiday dinner at home. We are generally responsible for contributing a couple dishes. Sometimes I cook and sometimes my husband does. It depends on who has a recipe they want to try out.
As for doing the dishes after the big dinner, Uncle Dan is the champion in that area. He gets in there and makes it happen. Various people of both genders help out but he is usually the captain of that boat.

We host Thanksgiving every other year (when we are not out of town with my husband's family) at our house. I am fortunate that my husband is a good cook. We usually divide the Thanksgiving cooking duties up between my mom, my husband and I.

Spouse is responsible for the turkey, (white) mashed potatoes & stuffing. We simplified the turkey by cooking it in the rotisserie, so the oven is free for other things. I make the rest & relatives bring desserts.

If it wasn't for the "spouse" we'd never eat a thing

Hahahahahaha...no.
It's not his thing, and his contribution is financial. Let's just leave it at that.

My husband cooks for a living, so the times he's not helping with our holiday meal are when he's cooking it at work.
