You can find one on almost every corner. They don’t have the same name, but the service is always friendly and welcome. The fare served is similar among each establishment, yet individual in its own right. A person will always find something that suits whatever they might have a hankering for that day.
The neighborhood coffee shop-liquid solace for the tired, sweet-gooey goodness for the sugar craved and most likely something for the health conscious-but a place that has something for everyone.
Some days it may be a place where business men or women that can’t get away from work, but can relax a bit. It could be a place for a lonely student to get a caffeine buzz and try to get some studying done, sneaking in some social networking time in-between. One thing is certain; it is the best place for getting together with friends, long lost or otherwise, connecting and catching up on life.
On this day it was a meeting of some moms. A group of diverse women, who may appear different, yet are the same. Over coffee and a variety of sugar-laden treats-no guilt allowed- we listened and we talked. Heads nodded as we understood and empathized. Eyes swam with emotion as we saw miracles before us, and silently prayed for good health for those of us who really need it. Laughter tinkled in the air as we talked about our children.
The great thing about this group of moms is that though we may have different beliefs, or our politics may not be the same, we can sit for an hour and a half, drink our coffee or tea and get along. We can take those things that make us similar, maybe learn, possibly grow and know that we aren’t alone on the journey of motherhood. One mother shares her experiences of marrying her children and having grandchildren, another of raising younger ones. Perhaps I can help the mom who is raising that hormonal tween/teen. I am reminded by one mom of how precious life is, and how helping the next person is really part of completing the circle of life.
The meeting of the moms isn’t always the same group of moms, but each time our lives are recharged and I for one can feel that surge for a long time. I carry the words from those moms around with me, to use in my life’s lessons. Pockets of my brain hold ideas and suggestions from my mom friends, the future reference files. One thing that I take to heart is the gratitude I feel for these moms that have been carefully chosen to be a part of my life. The Chosen one truly knows what I need and when I need it.
Some people might spend tens of thousands of dollars to get this kind of feel-good therapy, but we get all of this for the price of a cup of coffee and a sweet roll wrapped up in warm and fuzzy neighborhood coffee shop.
Priceless.
