This week, two days before ringing in the New Year, I decided to face something head on that has been “weighting” heavily on my mind. It is one of those insurmountable challenges that I try to run from but it continues to glare back at me every time I look in the mirror. I can’t escape it any longer, I have to face it: My weight.I didn’t just say I am going to do something about it, but I actually moved my two feet, put my body in the car and drove just around the bend to the local Weight Watchers meeting place. I would love to say that this is somewhere I have never been before, but that would be a bold faced lie. I have graced them with my presence many times over the years and with some measure of success. I have never met my goal though (which tends to be ridiculously unattainable) and usually end up having missed meetings and then, big surprise, I slip back into dangerous territory. Determination and desire are replaced with complacency and apathy and suddenly it seems I am back to where I began. The vicious cycle begins again. There have been one too many disappointing shopping trips where nothing fits or looks right, and doctors visits where I hold my breath when I hop on the scale, hoping that I can suck up some of the weight so that they don’t see the true number. I have used too many cliché excuses and tried to blame motherhood for too long. So I am picking up my defeated behind and becoming, as my son so eloquently puts it, a “weight stalker”. I am going to be the one that sits in the front row and listens and raises my hand to ask questions. I am thinking about what I put into my mouth and planning ahead if I want something special. I am cooking what I need to eat and if the kids don’t like it they can make peanut butter sandwiches. I know I can stalk this weight away if I just take it one day at a time.I have this awesome crew at home that are the world’s best cheering squad and are behind me all of the way and while I want this for me, I know the lesson for them will be tremendous. As hesitant as I am to broadcast this across the net, I feel empowered at the same time. I am accountable.I have this picture at home that I see every day. It is my senior cap and gown picture from high school. It is a much thinner version of me that I envision when I close my eyes. The Big Prize. That is what I stalk. No, it won’t be the exact replica, for which I am eternally grateful, but it is the close second that I long for and the one which I know I can achieve.I have done weight watchers before and really liked it! I will be cheering for you as I am working on being able to run a 5k! The hardest thing for me is to remember that it is a lifestyle change. A diet will never work you have to change how you do things and continue on with that change and make it the new normal.you can do it! and it is soooo worth it. And Sash is right - make it a lifestyle change, allow yourself treats one a while and you'll be there before you know it!
