My son Gabe, 10, may be Warren Buffet morphed into a short blonde's body. He has high aspirations to be fiscally responsible and financially independent. He receives his allowance bi-weekly and pockets it into his wallet. Birthday, Christmas money and gift cards, the same. He carefully thinks about a purchase before he makes it. In fact recently at Walmart, he purchased a video game, a big purchase. When I asked him how much money he had to spend after he used a gift card, he said none. Very impressive, since my Christmas money was spent a week after Christmas (on much needed new clothing, in my defense). We went to the mall recently, with wallet in hand and though he searched for something and found some good buys he left with nothing. Sometimes he buys his sisters breakfast at McDonald's because "I want to do a good deed that is something besides holding the door open for someone." My sensitive guy.
On last President's Day he lost a tooth, such a monumental event for him. His teeth have been slow to fall out to make way for those adult teeth. I chalk it up to him being a boy. The other is reason is he is not a tooth wiggler. He will just let it sit there until it falls out! When his first tooth fell out in Kindergarten the teacher reported how upset he became when his tooth just fell out! His sisters had tried to get him to wiggle it, trying to entice him with stories of the tooth fairy, but he would have none of it. Everyone else in my house practically performs oral surgery to extract their teeth in order to recieve the spoils of the tooth fairy. Go figure!
So he brought home the tooth from my parents house and life went on, in fact I forgot about it and the tooth fairy didn't visit (bad, busy mom!) Tuesday, he came home from school, excited because he had lost another tooth. I casually asked,"What happended to the tooth from the other week? Did you put in under your pillow?"
"No," he responded. I was baffled and relieved! "Why?" I asked?
"I am saving them," he said. "I thought if I gave the tooth fairy lots of teeth I could just get my money all at the one time."
I almost hit the stop sign, I laughed so hard! Donald Trump better get out the way, Gabe will grow up soon! I think he is going to give him a run for his money! I wonder if the tooth fairy pays interest on teeth you lost several years ago..if so sign me up!
