That’s what I would say to Apple’s Steve Jobs if I ever happened to bump into him (like that’s ever going to happen). Or if I got face to face with whoever runs Capcom, the frauds (yes, I’m being dramatic) who designed the new iPad app, Smurf Village.
During my confrontation of said rich people, I would put my hand out and demand $108. They could write me a check, give me it all in quarters. I don’t care. Just make sure it’s $108 even.
That’s how much vanished from our bank account over the weekend. One minute I’m headed out the door to do a little shopping, and the next I’m getting a call from my husband asking me if I went a little shopping crazy as I played my new iPad obsession, A Bakery Story. One-hundred-and-eight-dollars crazy.
"Uh, no, I don’t think so?" I said, praying like anything that all those cookies I was baking didn’t cost REAL money. I’m new to these Apps, I have no idea what I’m doing. And now husband is looking at a charge from itunes for $108. (Now, how can I buy clothes when I’ve apparently just bought something costing … let me say it again … $108?)
It turns out I wasn’t the one who went a little crazy. Seems it was youngest. And now, we’re the new owners of a wheel barrel full of smurfberries. Exciting, huh? It must be asked, what in the heck does one do with a barrel of smurfberries?
Let me digress for a minute.
The Smurf Village app came into the iPad world in the fall. Not really sure what you do in the game/pretend world of blue things, but kids seem to like it. Within a month, the Smurf Village began the highest-grossing app, knocking out Angry Birds. Really, Angry Birds? Papa Smurf and Brainy knocked out those adorable sling-shot flying birds? I mean I’ve become addicted to that game and I first played it four days ago.
But it’s true, the Smurfs are No. 1 in the app profit world. On Saturday night, we began to understand why.
It seems we don’t have the only 4-year-old in the world who likes to play with the Smurfs. While he was playing on the iPad, his fingers apparently were moving pretty quick and in one little touch of the dirty screen, he bought a wheelbarrel of smurfberries.
He didn’t need a password, didn’t need to read any acceptance clause. Didn’t need to holler at Dad for help. Nope, one touch and the wheelbarrel was his. Well, ours.
Can we say scam? A few parents across the country sure think so.
Husband found bad reviews and complaints all over the Internet. One mom stopped her kid right before the transaction went through, and another mom never recovered the $68 that paid for a load of smurfberries. More and more Moms and Dad found themselves with all kinds of Smurf purchases.
And guess what? No human will ever come to the phone. Convenient, don’t you think. So now, husband and I are resigned to the fact that we own a ton of smurfberries that we’ll have to put to good use somehow. Do you think we could pass them off to youngest as a Valentine’s gift?
Yeah, probably not. But maybe he and I can have a little fun tonight and sit down and play with some Smurfs. Quite an expensive night in on Valentine’s day….
That makes me so mad, and I don't even have an iPad! I would sure demand my money on that one, though, as you said, you can't get through to someone. KACHING! Her nephew bought a tracter for her FB farmville for $100 without my friend's knowledge that same day. Needless to say the kids are no longer allowed to play with the phone.
