If they did, my husband would be cheating on me. At least five times by now.
Our oldest would be dating a girl with more holes in her face than swiss cheese. And as of yesterday, our youngest would be (I have trouble even writing it) flailing in a lake somewhere with me unable to reach him.
Man, I gotta say, I hate dreams. Mine are often horrible. I never win the lottery. Never am a size 6 or never go on an exotic cruise with my husband. Oh wait, I did dream I was on a cruise once, only my motion sickness had me vomiting the whole time. Not so exotic.
Instead, I dream about death and disease. Watching my husband flirt or getting in a fight with family or friends. I have such crazy dreams that at one point I got all involved with dream analysis but then started overanalyzing everything. Imagine that.
So now I just stick by one rule my girlfriend told me. When you dream bad things that often means good things will happen. That allows me to sleep again. And my husband.
See, when I dream, and then wake up, sometimes I’m convinced it all actually happened. I wake up mad at my husband because he’d been flirting or afraid when I can’t find my sons or freaked out because I messed up at work. I can’t separate dreams from real life. At least not for awhile.
A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and nudged my husband awake. I mean it was about 3 a.m.
“You’re in so much trouble,” I said to him in a half daze.
“What did I do this time?” he said. His eyes were still closed but I swear he had a slight smile on his face. He’s used to this and finds it all pretty funny.
It's not as funny when I wake up in the middle of the night and make sure our youngest is still in his bed because I had a dream he was snatched from his bed. Or when I awoke from an afternoon nap Sunday in which our 4-year-old kept jumping into a lake in the Ozarks. On the third jump he didn't come back up, and I was sweeping my arm back and forth in the dark water when I shook myself awake.
I told my husband we had to get him in swimming lessons, as if that's a perfectly normal thing to think about in the middle of winter.
Surely other people find themselves believing dreams are real, though hopefully they're not as unpleasant as mine are. Or maybe they’re just not as crazy as me.
My dreams are like that, most of the time. I have always had the most unusual dreams and they do always seem so real. Fortunately not.Laughing. Mine are complete wackiness. Celebs mopping my cave house floors while dogs are jumping two-legged on the trampoline in the bathroom as stranger is answering an artichoke phone and I'm nowhere to be found. It's a pattern. These dreams hit right before I wake up, so figure they are semi-conscious unloading of unwanted junk in brain.Oooh, I like the idea of the unloading of junk, 83hwy. It's true for me, too, that the most vivid are many times right in the early morning hours. I have many times been mad at my husband, as if he really did cheat, or panicked that my kids are gone. I've read that some dreams are our worst-case scenario and we practice what to do (or not do) so reality is much easier. Would love to see more dream studies.I've heard that too, granolamom - that it's practice. I've also heard that bad dreams are about ourselves - when I dream a friend dies, it's something that friend represents in me that's dying - so it can be a new beginning. Idunno, I have crazy dreams too, sometimes they wig me out a little. Like hacking at a dinosaur with a butcher knife trying really hard to kill it, hating that I'm hurting it, but pretty sure it will kill me if I don't succeed.
