There’s no other explanation.
If one expensive thing breaks (like the backyard sprinkler system) well, that’s just bad luck. Deal with it, or just use the other sprinkler, and move on.
A second crazy expensive thing (like a whole dang car) breaks and hold the curse words back because the kids are listening.
But when a third (like the family refrigerator) starts to break? Now you just begin to wonder what you did and to whom to cause such bad timing and such bad luck.
They say celebrities die in threes. Apparently appliances and major equipment in our household die in threes, too.
And now I’m living the cliché, "When it rains, it pours." Oh how I hate clichés.
But that’s where we are these days. Just watching things break and seeing money just fly out of the bank to fix it or buy a new one.
Did I mention that all this happened when husband and I were just about to be debt free except for our mortgage? I mean we’ve spent the past two years living a life that would make Dave Ramsey pretty proud just to have that feeling of no bills except the house payment. And that was next on our list.
Now we’re stuck with a leaky pipe under the house, a Volvo with three cylinders and a required prayer just to get it to start, and a decade old refrigerator that just decided to spew water all over the place.
Yep, I’m pretty sure the Universe is ticked.
But we’ll show the universe. We’re just going with the flow, or at least trying to. Fixing one thing and then moving on to the next.
Shopping for a new car as we buy time with the refrigerator. Maybe it’ll last until we get research done on a car so we can start the research on a new Frigidaire.
The leaky pipes (which flooded older son’s bedroom carpet) will have to wait.
Frustrating, don’t you think?
Already, I’ve had to turn to two of my most guilty pleasures just to get through the stress. Because I’m still on the "cruise diet" I couldn’t turn to Reese’s and chicken wings.
So I escaped with three hours of Law and Order yesterday afternoon followed by three episodes of MASH last night. Don’t we all have those one or two things that help us get through life’s craziness?
I’m afraid I’ll have to have a couple all-day marathons of Jack McCoy and Hawkeye Pierce before the summer is over.
Thank goodness there’s no saying about bad things happening in fours.
Over a 6 month span we have gone through the same thing with three major household appliances. What I want to know is why do these appliances die when they're so young? Our house is less than 10 years old? I remember my grandparents having a deep freeze for 40 years strong and no problems. We've had a mid-range one for 4 years, it died, and the repair men are still trying to resurrect it. They sure don't make things like they used to... BTW, I'm a strong shopper of the Sears outlet store in the Bottoms. We got a great deal on our frig. there. I feel your pain...Are we living in the same house? This past week, the refrigerator freezer crapped out $$, zero turn mower broke $$$, and someone backed into my car $$$$. They have to fix it but my time off to get estimates $$$$$. We are still playing caught up from dh being out of work. UGH!We've also had several things we've had to fix or replace lately: washer/dryer, refrigerator, and ceiling fan in bedroom. With you on that. We have gone thru this spurt before, and it looks like we are in another. Dh's truck broke down, then sons car broke down, and we paid to fix it. My kitchen fridge freezes everything, lightening took out the microwave, and now the brakes on my truck are acting funny. I don't dare ask "what is next" because it just seems I'll find out all the sooner. At least you are free of the other debt, right? Even if this gets you back to some credit card debt, at least you start from $0. If you've done it before, and you can do it again. Look at how much you've saved with your coupon clipping, right? And surely your youngest will soon be out of diapers, which cost a fortune. You're doing great, I think. I'm guessing you deserve a new fridge anyway.Speaking of Refrigerators. We recently had to bite the bullet and replace ours. The ice dispenser door broke, with that came frost around the hole. We had to plug it up with a dishtowel to block the air. Plus the valve in the back that controls the water flow never worked. $750 to fix a freezer that on cost the previous owner a grand. So as we are looking for a new fridge we came across something disturbing. SEARS signs all their stainless refrigerator with the price of the white model. We were looking at only stainless steel with the french doors. I think the two we were comparing were $2299, After we decided which one of the two we wanted the saleman then tells us that the price in BOLD was for the while model. The stainless was $300 more. When I questioned it the salesman he wasn't very helpful. So we started to just leave. Before we got out the door I decided to speak to a manager first. He was equally unhelpful. Somehow they don't understand that when the have a sign on the appliance in BIG and BOLD lettering we think that is what the price is for that very appliance. We are not looking at the smaller print. I went back to Home Depot, bought the same fridge for the lesser price and haven't been back to Sears since. You might want to keep that in mind when you do go shopping for that new Refridgerator.
