Ever wonder how your kids are going to grow up?
What kind of person each is going to be? Even what they’ll look like?
OK. You’re looking at a girl who doesn’t want any surprises. None. I want to know what we’re having for dinner by 2 p.m. I have to read the last page of a good book to see what happens. If I TiVo a game, I get too nervous to see the outcome, so I go online to see the score even before I’ve watched the game.
So, needless to say, I’m looking for any clues to see how they’re going to turn out. One of my magazines says we can tell by the little things they do. How they behave at age 2, is pretty much how they’ll act as an adult, only a little more mature.
At two, oldest was starting to sing The Beatles while other kids were learning their ABCs. By age 5, he was trying to convince the world he was superhero, not a kid wanting to go to Kindergarten.
“What’s your name?” the lady at the school screening ask.
“Batman,” he answered.
“No, what‘s your real name?”
“Bruce Wayne.”
I just smiled.
Now, he’s almost 13 and still loves the Beatles and wants to be an actor. I could have told you that years ago.
And while I don‘t know exactly what’s in store for the youngest. I‘ll tell you this much: He’s going to be a hugger. A guy in tune with his emotions.
Around our house, he’s the affection police.
No one can leave the house without a little hugging and kissing. With everyone.
“Dada needs kisses,” he says to me before I leave for work each morning. “And hugs.”
I oblige.
“Now Mimi,” he says.
Even dog Rosco.
It sometimes takes 10 minutes of affection just to get out of the house. But that’s Ok.
I love raising a hugger. And a potential actor?
Now, if I only knew what all of toddler’s high-pitched screaming is all about.
Opera singer?? Hog caller?? Air traffic controller?? Film/radio/television sound effects voice?? Mine wrote a letter to the President demanding accountability on taxing children without representation. He's currently an Advocate for people with special needs. Too fun!!I get excited and anxious about the outcome of things, too, but I love the surprise for much of it. I wouldn't want to read a book if I read the last page. As for the screamer, I vote he'll be a singer. Or maybe a conductor since he likes to orchestrate the physical contact. Or a wrestling coach? There's lots of hugging there, and probably screaming, yes?
