There are many a days when my oldest loves, loves, loves Mom2Mom.
Just ask him. He’ll tell you how before The Star created this lovely site our family never knew about tater tot casserole (thanks Valerie), or about how to decorate cookies as a craft during last year’s school Halloween party courtesy of B2Mom. (Instant kid favorite and he didn’t have to play Bingo -- the ole' standby game I had planned for the class -- again.)
And then there are the times when I rant about something crazy he or his little brother did and I get a slew of ’been there, done that’s.’ Pretty entertaining to watch him as I read through some of them and see relief just wash over his face. He likes feeling he’s not alone. (So do I!!!)
Then there’s the big one. The reason of all reasons. M2M pretty much gets him -- and anyone else in the family -- out of the doghouse.
Anytime I’m about to lose it, the times when my frustration level’s hitting the brink, he and my husband get “the look.” And then one of them says, “Yeah, but …. It’ll be a great blog.”
Believe it or not, it works. Instant therapy without the couch and hourly rate.
Seems that anything bad doesn’t seem so bad because I can blog about it at the end of the week. I can sit at the kitchen counter and just pound on the computer keys until my family can almost sense mom’s mood improving.
What do you mean the principal’s about to give my kid detention for my tardiness? Click, clack, Click, Clack…
An F at the orthodontist? Braces might have to come off early? Money wasted? Pound, pound, pound …
Will our toddler ever leave a store without screaming through the aisles, flailing his arms as if he were dying? More typing.
Just the other day, we made a Friday night out of going to Goodwill to find a Joker suit for oldest’s Halloween costume and then two other stores for the youngest. We find the perfect suit, husband transports a screaming kid from the toy section and oldest and I race to the car. All is well.
Until about 30 minutes later when he realizes his new, $75 (pretty hip for one mom picked out) coat isn’t with him. It’s at the Goodwill. The Good Will? The worst possible place in the world to leave a coat at closing time. Surely it’s on the rack by now.
I start to lose it. Husband sees this happening and rushes oldest out the door to see if all the workers have cleared out of the Goodwill yet.
Long story short? Husband finds the coat of the rack ready for sale. Clerk believes him, the day is saved.
On the way home, oldest thanks husband for taking him back to the store, and discusses how now, disaster averted, it might make a decent blog episode for mom. That'll make her happy, he thinks. Oldest may have summed it up best in something he said to husband on the way home:
“You know, this kind of helps you too. It’s not good for anybody when mom’s in a bad mood.”
So that's what it's come to. Thanks, Mom2Mom.
How about you? What have you learned this past year? What does M2M do for you and your family?
it is cathartic, gives me a place to vent and feel better knowing I am not the only one out here going through this stuff. Our lives are never so easy when we surround ourselves by people who know what we are going through and been there themselves. It's been wonderful. I can't wait to meet all you soon!!! It has been a great release--a place just to vent and get advise. And think of all of the money we are saving on shrink fees.YW for the tater tot casserole recipe, we are having it this week...although credit really goes to the Duggars. Families are definitely good for blog topics, aren't they? If I were more into airing my dirt, I'd do it every day! Please tell your son and husband thanks for being willing to let us see into your lives. I love your blog! For me, M2M allows some insight into what might be coming as my girls get older. I feel more prepared to deal with certain issues when others are struggling first. I get to have the benefit of seeing what's worked and what hasn't--at least what people share on here, anyway. Definitely makes me feel more "normal" when I read stuff on this site, and not so alone in the mom struggles. Thanks! As someone who doesn't hang out with other moms IRL (haha, I don't. I'm hermity, what can I say?), I find it very therapeutic to come on here and see just how many moms out there think like I do! I've met some here that I think are just amazing ladies who would make terrific and loyal friends. And my family has no idea I use them and their foibles for material. I'm not going to wise them up, now! :D
