According to Urban Dictionary and my almost 7-year-old son, "swasome" means: sweet and awesome mixed together.
It's news to me, I've never heard the term before. Apparently, I'm not the only clueless one, I asked my coworker who's "hip" and she had never heard it before either. She was going to start using it though.
I'm actually surprised that people still use the term "cool."
"Swasome" was first said in our house a week or so ago during a conversation about prize ducks you get for participating in "Jump Rope for Heart."
I remember participating in "Jump Rope for Heart" as a kid. Back in the day we got in a line in P.E. class and... well... we jumped rope.
I can't remember what prizes we got after donating a certain amount, but I'm sure they weren't as fancy as they are today.
It's evolved since then.
I haven't personally witnessed it, but there are fancy games they play and "levels" of jumping rope and some other stuff that I couldn't quite grasp.
The largest/best/biggest prize you can earn is a "Riprider," and you have to solicit/donate at least $1,000. I told Bo we can go to Target and buy the same big-wheeled bike for a lot less.
He frowned, and insisted that he at least raise enough money to get a "ninja" prize duck.
To get a "ninja" duck you had to have at least one online donation.
Simple enough.
We created his personal "Jump Rope for Heart" page and solicited family and friends through email. He wanted to set his goal to $40 so that not only would he possibly get a "ninja" duck but he'd get a "Super Looper," his very own jump rope and a t-shirt.
After a few days his goal was met and he was super excited.
"Bo Luke, you raised your $40 and you get that "ninja" duck you were talking about."
"SWASOME!"
"What?"
"SWASOME!"
"What?"
"Mom, it means sweet and awesome together."
(His explanation was followed by a heavy sigh)
A few days later we received yet another email confirming that he'd raised an additional $10 making the total $50.
I wasn't aware until after I was told by my first grader that he now gets the "whacky" prize duck.
The "whacky" duck has crazy hair, and can be paired with the other ducks on his official "Jump Rope for Heart" lanyard.
Swasome.
People, these are important things to an almost 7-year-old. I make it my duty as a working mom to make all my kid's dreams come true. Even when it includes sending an email to the P.E. teacher making sure she adds my son's additional $10 so that he can receive "whacky."
Are there any other words out there that I'm unaware of? Any urban lingo making the rounds?
Please inform me, so that I can be in the "swasome" crowd.
