If you think about it, there's all different types of hugs.
Weird topic, eh?
For some reason, I found myself hugging people a lot lately. Perhaps it was the holiday season passing, or the good-byes I've been saying at work.
I've also been into smiling at others lately and I'm trying to make positive energy contagious. It's a new year! Let's be happy.
In my book there are at least six types of hugs:
1.) Squeeze Hug
This hug is usually performed with children, children who are super-excited to see you or who were just told they are going to Cici's Pizza. It lasts longer than most hugs and could involve kids putting their arms around your neck instead of around your torso. My son Bo usually pulls the squeeze hug on me before bed, a requirement in our house.
2.) Only One Person Wants to be Hugged Hug
When someone is mad at someone else and the mad person tries to give the other person the cold shoulder and then receives a hug as an attempt at forgiveness and just stands there while being hugged with their arms down.Hah, I've pulled this one on my husband before. I've also seen this kind of hug between kids and grandparents/parents. Usually the kid doesn't want to hug or kiss anyone but is forced to say bye to Grandma.
3.) Side Hug
My most favorite hug because this is mostly how I hug others. (Other than my son and husband, they get a squeeze hugs.) When I side hug people it's not because I don't like them, it's because I have this weird personal space issue. Hey, even my best friends get side hugs. The side hug is performed by wrapping only one arm around someone, even if they attempt to wrap two arms around you.
4.) Oprah Hug
I recently learned about this hug from a coworker. Apparently, when someone goes in to hug Oprah, she grabs their hands before they can get their hands around her and shakes their hands around in glee.Ah, Oprah.
5.) Tap Hug
When one person or both taps your back or shoulders while they hug you. Usually this is a sign that someone feels sorry for you or that they are trying to show support. I often find that older people do this to younger people. But, I could be wrong.6.) Romantical Hug
Need I say more? What kind of hugger are you?
Perhaps I should add a category called "Non-hugger."
