A whole lot of nothing.
My nearly two week vacation from the egg carton ended yesterday.
During my time off I slept a lot. Like, I woke up at 11 a.m. almost daily.
My husband and son were also aboard the staycation.
Our house was filled with a lot of television, relaxation, drinking and eating.
One day I sat on the couch and watched a "Sex and the City" marathon for 9 hours straight on E!. I had no idea Carry almost moved to Paris for good.
I swear there is a permanent indention in the couch after that day.
I bet I've gained at least 5 lbs.
We took Bo to the movie theater, took him out to eat a few times and he played with his new Christmas toys, but for the most part I didn't want to drag him out in the freezing cold and allow for the possibility of him catching a cold or the flu from the mass of sick people wandering around town.
Crown Center seems like it'd be a cesspool of winter viruses around this time of year.
There was one day Bo went to Grandma Theresa's and spent the night. The intension there was to give us time to go to the doctor and check if Luke's vasectomy worked.
Well, that didn't happen. Instead, we browsed around Home Depot and ended up purchasing clearance tile for our master bathroom.
(I personally think my husband was stalling.)
The tile project was unplanned, and my too-good-for-help husband did most the project himself while I watched on.
Hey, he said I'd get in the way, so, whatever.
I had hopes and dreams for my two week vacation.
I wanted to organize Bo's closet, donate the clothes that didn't fit him. I wanted to assist my husband in cleaning and organizing the garage so that my car would once again fit inside, away from the snow and ice.
I wanted to go through the junk drawer and throw away random cell phone chargers and put the paperclips in one place where they could be found and used again.
I wanted to hit the laundry mat and wash our king-sized quilt.
Yeah, no.
I mainly just... slept a lot.
I'll admit, the last few days I was starting to get a tad bit stir crazy. Even though I had a bunch of house work to do, I was unmotivated and my body was telling me to lay around for just a little longer.
I was bored, but at the same time, I didn't want to go back to work.
A few holiday self-reflections popped into my mind, I was grateful for family, friends, health and realized that my life was more than just my job. I'm a mother first, a wife, a daughter and a friend.
Jobs are great, but they aren't everything.
My best friend, Jill, explained to me that it's good to detox from anxiety. It's good to give yourself a few relaxing and boring days.
My time off was a reminder that while I do love being lazy, I also love being a working woman.
It keeps my mind sharp.
Bo was missing his friends. They can obviously role play better than me.
I wouldn't be able to go to Key West every year (This coming Jan!) if I didn't work. What's that saying? Work hard and play harder?
I also wouldn't mind having a less stressful job.
It will come. It will come.
Eleven more years and Bo will be 18, and my husband and I will be living on a trawler and working as a bartender and a deck hand on a fishing boat.
For now, I think I'll keep a full time job, my vacation days and a case of Marley's Mellow Mood.
Now if I can only get a more comfortable desk chair...
