It's no surprise that the cooks in our house are the boys.
I'm not into cooking, but I am into eating. Lately, my husband has conjured up some really magnificent meals.
He's one of those people who can whip up a masterpiece with the bare bones of a lacking pantry.
Some of my favorites: homemade onion rings, fresh fried green beans, steak frittata, Cheez-It-crusted chicken fingers and homemade sweet potatoes.
Since our son looks up to his daddy and sees him as a hero, he thinks that men cooking in kitchens are the "norm."
I say this, but my mom was a cook master, and I ended up hating cooking. Probably because I heard this all the time: "Get out of my way and go play..."
I mean, what is "normal," anyways.
Luke welcomes Bo into our kitchen and even lets him pour ingredients into bowls and expands his taste buds by offering BBQ sauce instead of good 'ol ketchup.
We are fans of the show "Chopped," and found it really cool that our six-year-old will sit with us for an hour to watch it.
Oftentimes we find him changing the channel to 52 (Food Network) all on his own.
There were a few days he brought out the semi-dried up old school Play-Doh and pretended to be both a contestant and judge on "Chopped" by making fake bright play food.
He would make one of us do a count down much like they do on the show.
At the dinner table he is known to tell Luke: "Dad, this might be a tad bit salty."
I'm not sure where that fine line is between insult and constructive crit, but we understand where he's coming from.
I'm convinced he must be the only 1st grader to enjoy the Food Network.
The other night Bo and I were driving home from piano lessons when we started making up our own names for flavors of ganache.
We laughed hysterically.
"Bean-glazed ganache."
"Encrusted soufflé ganache."
I don't even really know what ganache is, but we had a blast rambling off fancy "food words."
(Ganache ( /ɡəˈnɑːʃ/; from the French word for "jowl") is a glaze, icing, sauce, or filling for pastries made from chocolate and cream.)
What kind of shows do you enjoy watching with your little ones? And I'm NOT talking about any kind of kid cartoon.
Even though he dreams of being a professional baseball player, or popular pianist, I think it'd be super cool if he became "Chef Bo Luke Jonas."
Is culinary school expensive?
