I am currently down in Florida on vacation and I keep hearing this tiny voice in the back of my head.
“Come to us… you can find cheap discount tickets and hotels online.”
“Think of how much fun Niko would have with us.”
(And their latest campaign) “Build your family memories at our park… we are so close to you……”
It’s really hard to avoid the lure. I told myself that Niko is just too young for that kind of trip. He just turned 2 in September and I doubt he would last all day in Disney before we had a nuclear meltdown.
We are staying with my parents for the week and they are about 3 ½ hours away from Disney World. Not really close enough for an unplanned trip, but we are in the neighborhood … sort of.
So I am making a list. Pros vs Cons:
Pros:
He would LOVE it. He knows almost all of the Disney characters and I would love to see his face when Mickey Mouse comes up to him. I know that Disney and surrounding areas have been hit by the recession as well and there are great deals out there, even this late in the game.
Cons:
We are still in the must have nap zone. I fear an over-stimulated meltdown outside of the Tea Cups ride. He’s pretty small and I am unsure what my ROI would be for this trip. Even though Disney and surrounding areas are hurting, it’s still pricey even if you do it on-the-cheap.
It really boils down to if we do the trip it would be more for us than Niko. I haven’t been to Disney World in about 8 years and it would be fun. I have always wanted to take my kids to Disney, just like my parents took us. (Which is EXACLTY the marketing campaign Disney is running right now.)
I am still torn. If we do go, it will be totally last minute. So I am wondering, what’s the youngest you have taken your kids to Disney? Pros/Cons on taking young kids?
Should I wait or Carpe diem like the hot girl I saw at the beach who had those words tattoed up the side of her rib cage? (Note to self, go on diet; then get tattoo of clever saying in cursive writing up the side of my rib cage.)
GO while you have the opportunity. Just take time out for napping and recharging. Adults as well as babies. How often are you going to be in FL? If this is an annual trip I'd hold off but otherwise, GO!! My friend just took her 23 month old, she slept through the parade in her stroller :)If you intend to make more visits to Florida then wait, but if not then GO! I am chomping at the bit to take DS-2 (will be 3 in August) to Disneyland/world I cant wait for the opportunity.I say go if you can get a good deal. My son was 3 when we went to DW in 2006. We went to Disneyland 2 years later, when daughter wasn't 2 yet. Like AllieBon said, go back to the hotel if you need to for nap, or find a quiet place for a nap in the stroller!Well, I hate to do this, but I disagree with everyone here. Two years old is just too young to remember such a huge vacation! If you're going just for yourself and your DH, then I vote leave Niko with your parents so you can enjoy the full trip without having to worry about naps and meltdowns. Maybe it's just me because we couldn't begin to afford such a trip, but I really think if you're going to spend the money, you should wait until he's old enough to remember it.In my opinion he's too young. I went when I was 5 and I don't remember a darn thing. We are waiting until Bo is around 7-ish... maybe 10. That way he can walk by himself and get on the rides without worrying if he's too small or short.I am sure that he would love it if you want, but it wouldn't be a memory for him. He won't remember it that long. If you visit down there often why not wait until he is a little older and would have a better chance of it being one of his memories as well, and not just one he sees in pictures.See how cheap you can get tickets. It's it seems worth a few hours of fun, then you may as well go. I wouldn't even consider calling it a whole day of fun. Has he even gone to WOF, yet? It might be worth going someplace close to home before trying something with a 3 hour drive home (you never know what could send him into over stimulation) The new Snoopy park looks pretty promising this year. Save the Mouse for when he's a little older. BTW, my "hubby" is a tattooist. You may want to consider your clever saying for someplace a little less "OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING?"We live here in FL (about an hour from Disney). Disney is VERY expensive and takes a LOT of planning and prep prior to bringing young children. NO way would I do a last minute trip to Disney with kiddos. There's a ton of other stuff to do in the area that's not nearly as pricey or overwhelming. (SeaWorld??) If you want to go, then go it alone, not with a young kiddo b/c the anticipation you have for his enjoyment may not pan out.I would wait as you would then have 7 hours in the car. My daughter went at age 3 and doesn't remember any of it--I do have cute pictures. She is now 14 and wants to go for Spring break as she is a huge roller coaster girl.I vowed I'd never take a stroller into a theme park and then I did when my DDs were 5 and nearly 2 at DWorld. Actually the stroller was good for a napping toddler, holding water bottles we brought into the park and our jackets and bags. And definitely TAKE THE GRANDPARENTS to the park with you! And key is going on a day when the park is not overly crowded like when school is IN session. My only experience at DW with kids was just 3 months ago w/ my then almost 11 year old, 8 year old , and 6 year old kiddos. Honestly, they were at an awesome age for it. They loved the parks, could go on every ride, have outgrown naps and temper tantrums, and could stay up later at night to enjoy the fireworks, parades, movies on our resort's "beach", etc. Admittedly, my oldest was not as into the characters as she would have been a couple of years ago but she was old enough to enjoy a late evening concert in Epcot. We were there during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival and each night was a different concert during the "Eat to the Beat" concert series. They really had some good acts such as Rick Springfield, Air Supply, and Howard Jones to name a few. It is such an expensive trip and I'd only do it w/ a toddler who won't remember anything about it if I knew I could afford to do it again in a few years. If you decide to take the plunge, enjoy! We went there twice pre-kids. I love that place!Didn't read a single comment, my thoughts...GO GO GO GO! Who cares if he doesn't remember, YOU WILL! Take pictures. You will never forget his face as he sees his favorite character come to life. We took DD1 at nearly 4 and DD2 at 20 months. Didn't regret it at all. Yes, lot of work. No, naps for either. There is so much to do and see, he will LOVE IT. He will sleep when he just can't stand it any longer. I have pics of DD2 in line asleep or in her stroller asleep. She caught naps when she needed and then was ready to go. If you are there, and handy, GO GO GO! Then tell us all about it. We are going back in 3 wks and I can't wait! My girls are nearly 6 and 4 now.Didn't read a single comment, my thoughts...GO GO GO GO! Who cares if he doesn't remember, YOU WILL! Take pictures. (Tip: The monorail makes a great naptime destination. You just keep going round and round in the airconditioned tram. Or the Tomorrowland Transit Authority ride in Disney World - just ride it around and check out the park while he naps. Or the carosel of progress (if you can stand listening to it over and over while he naps.) How about this? Still take the trip to Orlando. Go to Downtown Disney and shop, eat, play. Go to Goofy's Candy Company and let him make his own Mickey treat. Call and make reservations at one of the resort restaurants. Chef Mickey's is a character meal inside of the Contemporary. Pricey - but cheaper than Disney World. He will get to meet all of the Fab 5- PLUS you can still ride the monorail all aound. SO he would get a ride in!
