We have entered our first obsession. Toy Story.
Niko is obsessed. I’m talking total infatuation. I knew it would eventually happen, but not this soon.
I knew we were in trouble when Niko had a COMPLETE meltdown at the grocery store when Niko saw a loaf of bread with Buzz Lightyear on it and we didn’t buy it. Crying real tears over Buzz and Woody hotdog buns. Ugh. I now look down grocery store isles not for items to buy, but items with Toy Story to avoid.
I was trying to avoid buying any Toy Story toys until Niko’s birthday in September. I am stronger against the whine/sad eyes than my husband. I’m the bad cop in our relationship.
I got a text from DH on Wednesday saying that we had to buy Niko a Woody doll and we had to do it that night. When I talked to him about it, DH told me a sad, sad tale.
I guess Niko had a pretty big meltdown that morning over Toy Story. Niko found a picture in a magazine of Buzz and Woody and tore it out then proceeded to stare at it and hug it all morning on the way to daycare. He was staring at the picture with, “sad eyes.” It broke DH’s heart and we went to Toys R Us that night.
This is what great marketing does. Brilliant marketing by Disney. I can’t go to the store with Niko because I don’t know if there will be a box of pasta with Woody on it around the corner… waiting for us.
I think we have watched Toy Story and Toy Story 2 about 700,000 times in the last two weeks. Oh well. I guess it’s better than being forced to watch Twilight that many times….
Any one else going to see the new Toy Story 3 this weekend? I think we are going to try our first movie in the movie theater this weekend. Wish us luck!
I am so excited for this one. The previews with Barbie and Ken are hysterical. I love that Ken has a complex about being a doll, a girls' toy, rather than being an action figure. Blake didn't go to his first movie until he was about 3 1/2, but he's a pretty squirrely kid. Good luck, I hope you all enjoy the movie.My DD2 is totally obsessed too! Has been for about 18 months or so. She is 3. In fact she is so obsessed that she calls me Jessie or Buzz most of the time as she is Woody or Jessie, depending on her mood. DH is Zurg or T-Rex. She loves her Woody doll. and YES, Disney is genius at mktg to kids things that we didn't think we needed/wanted or ever thought we would buy yet we do. We are very excited for TS3 at our house. Not sure if we'll go opening weekend but we will go at some point. Enjoy the first movie with your son, it is a special time! I'm sure he will be captivated by it all.For some strange reason DS just watched Toy Story and Toy Story 2 for the first time last night (they were on ABC Family). I was really thinking that he would like it a lot more than he did, DD seemed to be a lot more into it than he did. But if he asks to go see it we will take him!We were experiencing something like this with DS a few weeks back. Happily I was shopping for some water toys at Target and found Buzz, Woody & the Alien dive toys in a 3 pack for $8. Two birds & all that. DS loves to pretend play with them, and DD uses them to perfect her mad skills poolside.Oh, for the meltdowns over the little things! If only teen angst involved nothing more complicated than Toy Story.I think I am more excited about the kids for Toy Story 3. I'm not sure if we'll be among the throngs this weekend, but we'll get there eventually! And we'll probably end up with a couple of the toys for the kids. My kids don't seem tuned in to the extra marketing, but we are tuned in to the toy aspect! Have fun taking Niko!
