Look at that sheer joy when he is with "butterfly bear" - how I wish that were me!!
My little man has a new best friend. It’s a blue butterfly bear that plays “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” when you press the belly. We got this toy as a gift at my baby shower and it’s been in Niko’s room since he was born.
Niko discovered this toy for the first time last week sitting on his bookshelf. The two have been inseparable since.
He loves “butterfly bear” as we call it. He kisses it, hugs it and talks to it. All the things I wish he would do with me….
Is it OK to be jealous of a stuffed animal?
Niko is not a cuddly baby… much to my dismay. He wiggles out of hugs, squirms out of cuddles and will only tolerate kisses for a while.
I see him hugging “butterfly bear” and I wish it were me. Sigh.
Am I crazy?
I only seem to get hugs when he is sick or hurt. Then they are more of a hold me now while I wipe my boogery nose on you.
Maybe he will become cuddlier as he gets older? (Yes… I know this is a pipe dream.)
Is this a boy thing? Or is this just a case-by-case kid thing regardless of gender? Does his age have anything to do with it?
My friend bribes her son for hugs… I might have to think about that when he gets old enough to know what a bribe is….
Anyone else out there bribe their kids for hugs?
It's part of the growing-up process. Both my kids did this, and yes, it was rough for a while. But he'll come back to the hugs for a little while, and then later you'll get the dubious pleasure of being the single biggest embarrassment in your kid's life, when he will not only not hug you, but he will barely acknowledge your existence unless he's hungry or needs to go someplace, and when you talk to him, you will get muttering and monosyllabic grunts for answers. But if you're lucky, like me, he will still want you to tuck him in at night and sing him to sleep. :) The hugs aren't gone forever, though. Hang in there!
