My hair is long, way too long.
I have always had long hair. Every now and again a stranger would come up to me and say that I should donate my hair to Locks for Love.
One of my best friends is going to sheer her hair off for Locks of Love in March and I have decided to join her.
It’s a big decision for me… I haven’t had short hair since the infamous 8th grade perm.
Oh… so bad.
Imagine a blonde clown’s wig on an awkward/fat teenager with Peggy Hill glasses and braces complete with head gear. Hummm… wonder why I had NO boyfriends until I went to college.
Anyway… I was wondering if there are any other moms (or aunts, kids, grandmas… even dads!) that would like to join me?
Here’s a list of requirements:
• Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
• Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
• Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. **If the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate.
• Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
• Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
• We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
• Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
• Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
• Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
• 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.I don’t have any ideas of when, where or how… I figure we have months to figure that out.
Perhaps someone out there has some hair-cutting skills they could donate? Or a facility?Is there anyone that would be willing to sheer their hair with me? Let me know!
The only good thing that came out of my new Billy Ray Cyrus mullet "Do" is that my crazy long hair went to Locks of Love! Just avoid Mario Tricocci like the plague :)I do this every 5 years or so, it's cool. Call first, even if the salon is listed as a donator on the LoL site. I went to Mario Tricocci @ Town Center about 4 years back, and found out AFTER we'd started that they no longer took care of that, I would have to mail it myself. I think that donattion might still be in my trunk. But, I'm ready for another round -- March, you say?Cool idea for a meetup. I am actually growing my hair out right now to donate. I might have enough hair by March to do this.No "mom cut" cut here! My hair is so long that if I cut 10 inches off today - it's still past my shoulders! ;)AWW MAN! :p You HADto post this NOW didn't you? I JUST cut mine the day BEFORE you posted!! It was also to send to Locks of Love though. :) AND THEY DO accept hair LESS than 10 inches, to help offset costs. (It's just not enough to make a wig.) Great Clips was supposed to be a designated "center" but they don't do it anymore either! :( They have theaddress though. Don't think I'll have 10 by March, but I'll try!!! :)
