I now believe in unicorns.
I told my realtor that I would believe in unicorns before a valid offer on my house. Low and behold… an offer came in! After some back and forth we have come to an agreement and we signed the contract on Sunday.
Yikes… now we have no where to live!
I must say that I hate buying/selling houses.
Living in a fish bowl for the last 5 months has been hard with a little one. The phone would ring and we would have 1 hour to fix up the place and get out. It was exciting for the first month, but then it just became a pain. It was especially aggravating when the phone would ring right after putting Niko down for a nap.
So now comes the “fun” part. We need to find a new house… fast.
We know we want to move north of the river… we just don’t quite know where. My main concern is schools. (I have talked about this before.) To complicate things, I also have a residency restriction – I have to live in Kansas City, Mo. proper.
We put an offer on one house, but it was a short sale and the lender rejected it. Since then I have been to over 100 houses and I’m still searching. It’s tricky finding the right house.
There seems to be a LOT of split level houses in Kansas City. The house we just sold is a split level – I loved that house, but it just doesn’t suit our needs right now.
I grew up in the Chicagoland area so I’m used to sprawling ranches, bunker-style homes and traditional two story homes. (I would KILL for a sprawling ranch right now – I don’t understand why they don’t make them here…) One thing that I love here is the walk-out basement. We don’t have them in Chicago – mainly because Illinois is so flat.
I am looking for suggestions on northland neighborhoods! Do you think your neighborhood is the best? If so, why?
My step-daughter lives in Kansas City proper, but just by Liberty, and attends a Liberty school. I think it's a nice neighborhood. I don't know if that qualifies as northland area for you though.As I recall, we put our homes on the market about the same time. Congratulations! Hopefully, I'll get mine sold soon, too. Unfortunately, although I'm in the Northland I'm not in KC citly limits--'cause boy have I gotta deal for you!!!! :)Hey! We live in the Northland! KC, MO proper, if I understand you correctly. DO NOT let your child go to the KC MO SCHOOL DISTRICT. The school district's that are best -test scores, funding, teachers, etc. are the NKC (North Kansas City) School District or the Parkhill School District. Parkhill is a little bit more ritzy, but NKC has the "IB" Program. (Very challenging, ADVANCED learning once your kiddo is in high school.) There are plenty of large, nice houses in the NKC area for $85- $100,000. ParkVILLE is in the Parkhill area, but those may cost you a little more. If there's a way to tag me a little more privately, I'd be happy to give you my e-mail and share all kind of "personal" details about the schools, kids, and house hunting!Finally, you're moving NORTH to God's country. We're in the Liberty school district and have a KCMO addy, but we don't use the schools, Bo goes to a private school... another consideration to think about if you don't like the schools where you move. Good luck, I bet it's gonna be more fun finding a house now that yours is sold and you don't have to worry about a possible 2 house payment issue. Yay for you guys! Exciting.
