My worst nightmare happened last week. My neighbor asked if I was pregnant again. I forced a smile and told her no, that I was just still fat from Niko.
Awkward.
Depressing.
Frustrating.
When I got pregnant I told my husband that I was not going to be one of those women who got fat from being pregnant…. and here I am 20 pounds over weight and my baby is almost a year old. Arrgggg…
I promised myself that I would never be heavy again. I lost 65 pounds 7 years ago and vowed never to be fat again. I haven’t gained it all back, but I know it’s a slippery slope.
I underestimated how hard it would be to keep a workout routine with a baby. Until recently Niko did not sleep through the night so I would only get 3-4 hours of sleep at a time. There was no way I could even think of working out – I hadn’t had a full night’s sleep in 10 months!
But now I have no excuses!! Niko is sleeping through the night so what’s the deal?
Secretly… I don’t see the point.
We plan to start trying for number 2 in the spring so what’s the point of loosing the baby weight now only to gain it all back? I know that’s the WRONG thing to think…. but it’s in the back of my mind.
Health-wise I really need to loose the extra weight. I need to be in shape to make the second pregnancy easier for me. I went to the gym all the time when I was pregnant with Niko and I do think it helped.
Anyone else have the same predicament? Any suggestions? Words of wisdom? My son is 4 and I still have not lost the weight. I too said the same thing, I wasn't going to let this be an excuse. I did lose 20 pounds last fall, only 5 more to go but it was hard to do until things settled down a bit. Don't be in a hurry. Now when he is 18 and you are still 20 pounds overweight, can't really blame the baby then. :)I was a lot like you in the "why lose weight now" club. I really didn't get serious about losing the weight until after my daughter (#2) was born, and I knew we were through having kids.If you think finding the time and energy to work out is hard right now, wait until you're trying to do it with two. That's my dilemna right now. So let me tell you, lose the weight now so you will have less to lose after baby #2 comes along! I can't believe how much harder it's been this time around, and we're still in the phase where DD sleeps all the time! It's just going to get worse once she is awake all the time!If you have Time Warner Cable, they offer FREE "on demand" exercise tv. There are exercise segments as short as 10 minutes that you can do whenever. That said...my son is 8 months now and I still haven't lost that last 10 pounds. I can't figure out the time issue either. But good luck! While I completely understand the mentality of "why lose weight when I'm just going to get pregnant again," I'd like to offer my opinion that you need to be in the prime to grow and deliver a baby. Get your body in the best shape you can, and everything will go smoother. Otherwise, you'll have ANOTHER 20 lbs to lose after baby 2, thus leaving you with 40 lbs you can't get rid of. Treat yourself well, get healthy and strong and the whole process will run easier. My son is less than a year old and I have 15 to lose since he was born. I was talking to my friend about it and she said you look great, but you were really skinny before BAHHHHHWAAA.I'm actually stunned that someone could be that rude. WOW! Anyway, you'll have a healthier pregnancy and feel better if you shed a little weight. Do you guys have a Wii? I've heard the new EA workout is great.Ummm, yeah what was my excuse when my "baby" was 15 years old? Plain laziness. Do lose the weight now though....you'll thank yourself later. My son is a little over 2 and I am in the same boat as you. I want to lose weight too before we start trying for our second one and I agree that is hard to get motivated a lot of the time. I try to focus on being consistent and doing at least something 4-5 days a week, even if it means just taking my little guy for a walk. I think it is finally starting to pay off because a few of my friends have asked if I've lost weight but I'm still not happy with where I am. I also work out over my lunch break, it's a nice stress reliever, a reason to get some fresh air and then I don't have to worry about fitting a workout in when I get home from work at night. Just do what you can, every little bit counts, and the more active your son gets, that will make you more active too chasing him around!
