One thing I miss since having a baby is not being able to see new movies the day they come out. I’m not one of those people who think it’s alright to bring their baby to the move theater opening night. In fact, I spent the better part of my life wondering what was wrong with them. Nothing worse than spending $10 to hear a baby cry throughout a movie… come on! It’s 007, did you really think the gun noises and explosions weren’t going to bother your kid?
Yea, yea – I could drop Niko off at his Abuelos or pay a babysitter, but that’s not practical every time I want to see a new movie.
That is where the drive-in comes in! Ahhhh… the only haven for movie lovers who want to see the newest movie and where people don’t want to kill you if your baby makes babbling noises through most of the intro.
We went to the drive-in this weekend and it was great. Niko enjoyed climbing all over us and playing with his “aunts and uncles” during the movie. I must say that he stayed awake much longer than normal… but that’s the fun of the drive-in isn’t it? He was sound asleep in his pack-n-play by the second feature.
It’s been difficult going from being a “movie buff” to trying to avoid finding out the ending of the latest and greatest movie until I can Netflix it.
I know this solution will only work until he gets old enough to figure out what’s going on. I won’t be able to bring him along to see Terminator movie for much longer!
I’m not looking forward to swapping out the latest summer blockbuster for whatever awful children’s movie that I will be forced into watching…. Ugh.
Weeeeelllll ... after a severe movie deprivation when our daughter was an infant, DH and I were thrilled to go see the animated flick, "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" in the theatre. Only problem was, DD was more interested in climbing all over the seats throughout the theatre. Luckily no one else was there. We had the show to ourselves. So we tag teamed taking turns watching the movie and making sure the child didn't get into too much trouble. We also did the drive-in movie thing, which worked much better when DD was an infant. Voice of experience: toddlers and the freedom of drive-in movie theatres don't always mix. But we've had some lovely evenings taking DD and a friend or two to see the latest animated flicks at the drive-in. Some of the kid flicks, like Ratatouille, are quite good. Others like Beverly Hills Chihuahua ... well, let's just say I rented it later and made my husband watch it, because DD wanted to see it again, and I thought I shouldn't be the only one who had to endure the pain of sitting through the thing. Although, I have to admit that the part where the protagonist discovers her inner bark while visiting the Lost City of the Chihuahuas was ... surreal.Kim, WHERE are there any drive-ins still left in town? ... I'm a little nostalgic for drive-ins. That's where I saw my first movie EVER... "Disney's Bambi" and others through the um '70s including "Cannonball Run."Drive-ins are great for the kids! And as long as they are in diapers they will never have to know the horror of the bathrooms! (Sorry, most of the drive-ins that we have went to have had horrific bathrooms! I have learned to hold it!) So glad that he enjoyed it!We have 3 drive in's in town that I know of. The I-70 across from the Stadiums, The Twin out on 291 and the Boulevard.Welcome to parenthood. You can't just get up and leave whenever you want to like the old days. :) I went to see a movie with my girlfriend on Friday... the first in like a year! Ghost of Girlfriends Past, or something like that. It was cute. It's easier for us to get a sitter because both our parents are always willing to watch Bo while we go out and do stuff...
