The predictions are exhausting. Only a few 2012 days left.
So, you’re super busy with the holiday hectic schedule and everything that comes with December each year.
There are some people reading this who have completed their Christmas shopping, planned the best holiday meals ever and have their homes looking like a Holiday decorating magazine.
And then there are the rest of us.
Right now the only thing I’m prepared for is the end of the world as we know it. I’m not being morbid. I’m not going for the Mayan prediction or any other outside of my Bible.
However, I find myself wondering how ironic it would be if our world changed drastically by the end of the year.
Here’s a list of non-worries should the world change:
1) No need to worry about the January mortgage payment. (Splurge on Christmas sales?)
2) Maybe you should finally be honest with your boss about his halitosis.
3) Don’t even stress about New Year’s Resolutions. For once you’ll have a good reason not to accomplish them.
4) No after-Christmas guilt for not giving a gift in return for someone who remembered you.
5) No argument about who is really the best college football team in the land—those games aren’t played until January 2013.
6) Avoiding watching every miniscule bowl game—including the Scott Tissues Toilet Bowl (I just made that up).
7) No need to ask if those weird Christian folks (me included) were right about the whole God and Jesus thing. It will be more than obvious.
After all has anyone caught themselves singing the old song by R.E.M., “It’s the End of the World as We Know It”? This song came out in 1987.
I hope my topic hasn’t gotten anyone down. No one can really predict when the world will change anymore than I can predict when my six-year-old will finally tie her shoes. (I’m hoping Christmas break will do the trick).
After all, not too many years ago, Prince told us to party like its “1999.” He wrote that in 1982. Remember “Y2K”?
Looking at programs on Nostradamus, various the-world-is-melting specials and noticing what an odd world we’re living in these days can sometimes overwhelm me. And then I stop and think that I’m only in control of my small world. (Or as my mother used to say, “The only thing you’re running is your mouth”).
Instead of fretting, I’m focusing on the positive. Ooh, here’s another: No worries on overeating this holiday. World ending or transforming tends to interfere with the average weight loss program—theoretically, of course.
Enjoy the day you’re given and please don’t take any for granted.
I hum all kinds of REM songs-they are one of my faves, and Prince, too! ;) In all serious, sometimes I tire of the end of the world predictions, you know? Like you, I don't put anything into these predictions, I leave mine to my faith, and I refuse to live for the predicted date when I can live for the one that is a mystery to me. I like mystery.The Bible is the final authority, regardless of the who's. Who want to be a god. But I'm sticking with the Word of God, its because if him that I live move and have my being. And I can rest assured that when the end is upon us. That I will die in Christ. For this is the safest place in the world. If you know Christ, and he knows you. What's to worry about. Be blessed:-)
