Have you found yourself cleaning the floor after one child has been sick only to get summoned to your daughters’ bedroom because another child had an accident in her bed?
Well, if this scene sounds familiar, I don’t have to say welcome to my world—you’re a resident as well.
There is a bug going around because I know of children and adults who have been “tossing their cookies.” My husband and I became pungently aware of this fact earlier this week—when our daughter was sitting on the throne when she tossed hers.
We both stood in the bathroom for about 12 seconds developing our plan of action. It’s amazing that two people who have coached basketball for years and strategized about offense and defense—are a little slow when faced with “icky” stuff.
After our mental timeout, we were a “Mommy/Daddy Soothe and Clean the Daughter, Clean the Bathroom” machine. Of course, that was before we heard Darin’s mother say that our younger girl had an accident.
At that moment, we looked at each other in disbelief. What are the odds of that happening? In our house that is a trick question. There are days when I believe that we invented the whole “rains it pours” philosophy.
Using a variation of Wonder Twin Powers (the married version) we became a “Mommy/Daddy Soothe and Clean two Daughters, Clean the Bathroom and Bedding” machine.
So we did it. I had the joy of cleaning the icky-ness off of the floor. I won’t dwell on the details of this experience. But I will say that giving birth is only the beginning of parental sacrifices. I was proud of myself for not adding to the mix.
Darin was a champ—stripping the bed and working with his mother who was also helping. After that we cleaned both daughters, got them dressed and to bed. We smiled wearily at each other when we finally got them to bed. We thought of “high-fiving” each other but that would have taken too much energy.
As I write this, the girls are doing well but Daddy’s under the weather. I’m trying to keep the whole sick thing off of my calendar. I will wish a non-cookie tossing fate on any lucky readers of this blog.
And if you find yourself in cleanup mode, remember that’s why God makes them cute!
Nothing strikes fear in my heart more than when one starts vomiting. Because that means 8 more are likely to start too. . . .Crossing everything I possibly can as I say that I am the only one in our house that has had the "cookie tossing" issues. But, if it enters our house I guess I will clean with a smile. A smile covered w/a mask. Thanks for the lucky blog - I hope it keeps me - and all your other readers - safe from the bug. I've heard too many stories of people with it - it sounds severe. (backing away now, wearing garlic around my neck, index fingers making a cross sign)We have been so fortunate (knock on wood) that we have not had that crud in our house this year. When the kids were little I prayed for the days when they were old enough to make it to the bathroom. Of course, just because they are in there doesn't mean their aim is good! When one has the symptoms of the great big stomach bug I arm myself with sprite, lysol and lotion for my oh-so-dry hands from over washing them.I'm with Maggie, there are alot of potential victims in tis house as well. That is when every trashcan is positioned in convinient locations for random pukers, carpet cleaner pulled out and on standby, and the washer/dryer go non stop, and I go thru my entire stash of paper towels. Thankfully, pukefest is generally only about twice a year.
