Mini bats? Or weapons of mass destruction?

I don't really like sports. I don't know why. I can't really explain it. It's not like I had some traumatic sports-related experience. It isn't as though I find something fundamentally offensive about them. I used to play softball, actually. And basketball. I guess I just get bored watching sports on TV.
However, the men in my life have always loved all sports of all kinds. So, when my brother and neice came to visit this weekend, we did something that most proud Americans do. We went to the ball game!
I mean, we live in Kansas City, for crying out loud. How can you not go to a Royals game once in a while?
I always have fun when I go to the actual games. Here are the highlights:
We parked very, very far from the stadium, and it was hot out. Over 90 degrees! Farenheit!
They gave us these things called "mini pine-tar bats". It was Mini Pine Tar Bat day, apparently. I asked my brother to explain it to me a couple of weeks ago and I didn't really understand. I told Mitch to explain it, and I kind of forgot. Then, at the game, they showed a video thingy that told us some guy who played for the Royals had too much pine tar on his bat and his homerun didn't count, then they said it did count, then they had to play the game again. Or some junk like that. I dunno. I got a cool bat, though!
When we finally found our seats, there were many, many steep steps to climb. Many. They offended my fibromyalgia sensitivities. But I perservered!
We were an hour and a half early. That's what I said. We trekked back down the steep steps and all the way over to the Little K. I met a lady named... I don't remember what her name was, actually... who was there with her grandkids. Charlotte, Marc, and my neice Samantha all got wet in the fountain. Charlotte peed her pants.
When the game started and we were back in our seats, the Royals got a couple of runs. Good for you, Royals! Charlotte started to get bored and noisy, so I took her for a walk so my husband, Mitch, and my brother, Russ, could enjoy the game. She was so very mad at me, and ran away from me in protest. I followed her, of course, letting her go but staying quite close. What did security think?
"Do you want to get a drink, Lotte?"
"NO!"
"Do you want some cotton candy?"
"NO! Go away!"
We did this around the perimeter of the stadium, until she finally stopped so she could pee her pants. I sure hope no one saw that! Gross, seriously. I scooped her up like a little baby and carried her back to our seats where the diaper bag was. Mitch was kind enough to change her.
Back at my seat, Marc and Sam were trying desperately to get on the jumbo screen. We have some good dancers in our family!
At some point, I'm not sure when, my brother, Russ, made margaritas magically materialize in our hands. Is he some kind of tequila wizard? I hope so, and I hope he visits more often!
After the game, there were fireworks. Then, after making our way through the parking lot, Charlotte fell asleep immediately in her carseat.
Oh, and the Royals won. Don't ask me how, I wasn't watching the game. Do people actually go to the game to watch it? Surely they do, right?
Well, I had a blast at any rate. I don't think I'll be going back again this year, though. It kind of did a number on my body, and I have issues. But it was worth it! And while I may not be a sports fan, I am an appreciator. And thanks to Russ for taking us.
Have you been to a Royals game this year? Do you watch the game, or do what I do and use it as an excuse to chase kids and drink margaritas?
Oh yeah, and I can't close out this blog without telling you that earlier that day, Marc had his very first violin showcase at the music store where he takes lessons! He did fantastic. Good job, Marc!
Music and baseball, all in one day. I am exhausted just thinking about it!
I get my husband to get the seats where there aren't to many steps or to high and close to the front. Not only do I have issues with all the steps, I get stiff after sitting for a short while and I am kind of shaking getting up to walk down the steps. We try to get seats close to the tunnels but if it is real high I don't like to sit in the front of the section, cause I don't like heights either. We also get the end of the aisle so I don't have to trip over people when I need to pee. The boys went to the yankees game last Thursday when they won, it was some sort of trophy day. The both got one, came home and opened one to see what it looked like, set it down on a table and left the trophy, box, packaging and bag, where it still sits. I didn't mind not going. When I do go what do I do? Watch all the people going back and forth multiple times up and down the stairs, quite often carrying back some of the most discusting food I have ever seen, and would never eat. Chilli cheese fries. Gross! It is no wonder so many of us are getting fatter.
